What is 988?

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. While some areas may be currently able to connect to the Lifeline by dialing 988, this dialing code will be available to everyone across the United States starting on July 16, 2022.
988 is a direct, three-digit lifeline that connects you with trained behavioral health professionals that can get all Oklahomans the help they need.
What do 911 centers need to know about 988?
911 centers should have policies and protocols regarding how and when to transfer callers to 988 when it is appropriate, and how to receive callers transferred to 911 from 988. In some cases, these policies and protocols may also guide the use of mobile crisis response resources. For more information or how to have your 911 center integrated with 988, email 911@oem.ok.gov
